2018 SoundSport International Music & Food Festival
During the summer of 2017 a group of individuals began speaking about the fact that there was not a drum and bugle corps in West Virginia. Within weeks, Appalachian Gold was born through filing the appropriate documents with the IRS and the West Virginia Secretary of State's office to gain a non-profit incorporation for the Corps. After becoming a certified organization there was an election for Board of Directors, interviews for a Corps Director. Appalachian Gold still continues to move forward each and every day.
Appalachian Gold provides programs for youth in music and performance training. Leadership, individual, character and social development skills are emphasized through the challenge, excitement, and self-discipline presented by the Corps through travel, competition, and the pursuit of excellence.
The average age of a member with Appalachian Gold is 16 years. Many are students in local high schools that are enhancing their education through participation in this marching music activity.
Appalachian Gold relies on the support of dozens of hard working volunteers for their continued success and support. The corps’ Board of Directors, food service crews, sewing crews, and fundraising committees all donate their time on a volunteer basis.
Appalachian Gold proudly represents all of West Virginia and the surrounding tri-state area. Appalachian Gold is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Charleston, West Virginia.
Since there has been an absence of this type of organization for the youth in West Virginia, we at Appalachian Gold believe it is time to put a strong effort into providing more educational, musical, social, and exciting opportunities to the youth of this great state we call home; West Virginia.
